Is it just me or has this been a particularly cold winter? I don't quite remember suffering this much last year, but then after each gorgeous summer, you forget how it used to be - probably a defence mechanism.
I am a coat person, in that I'm part coat and part person (!!). I'll often struggle to get dressed in the morning because without the finishing piece, I feel bland, basic and a little bit naked. I'm trying to experiment more with other add-ons like a nice pair of statement earrings (usually defaulting to classic gold hoops) or layering a high-neck skin-tight top underneath another jumper but no matter what I do, my coat is the key, standout item.
So, I guess I shouldn't moan about winter then?
This first look features the most perfect Chocolate brown suede coat that I discovered in a charity shop in Swiss Cottage. It's been worn well, but with a lot of vintage pieces, they age gracefully and in this case, it adds more character and also probably a better fit. I love soft, shapeable suede that can be cinched in or worn oversized. But, I love nothing more than stumbling across an unexpected purchase in an unexpected place and finding it's the perfect piece for you. The last time this happened was probably when I was with my mum looking at vintage shops in Brick Lane and I found a pair of vintage Chanel slip ons in my exact size.
The hero piece of the second look is my trusty andotherstories black leather jacket which is probably the best investment piece I have bought . I took a long time deliberating over buying it, because it wasn't exactly cheap but I knew I would get so much wear out of it, especially as the hardware is black matte so goes with literally anything. It keeps me warm and elevates any easy day or night time look.
I'm wearing it with two other andotherstories pieces - firstly, this nutty brown/orange oversized knit with the best sleeves I've ever seen and my over the knee suede boots which have also been an excellent investment piece. They fit my legs like a glove, stay up where they are meant to be and despite having a small heel, are crazy comfortable to wear for a day of casual city exploration!
